Professor Hilt Tatum DDS
Professor Tatum has more than 38 years’ of clinical and academic experience in Oral Implantology. He has led the development of contemporary dental implantology by originating and popularising procedures such as: bone expansion (1970), autogenous bone grafting (1971), sinus lift (1974) and sinus graft (1975). He has pioneered predictable techniques for bone enhancement by a combination of bone expansion and closed interpositional segmental osteotomies thereby avoiding unpredictable onlay bone grafting techniques. His innovative approach avoids unnecessary complications related to bone grafting procedures and associated costs. He designed the first titanium root form system in the world to be given FDA marketing approval. He is well known for his excellent presentations and has delivered more than 2000 lectures in many countries. He was the Chief of Oral Surgery and subsequently the Director of the Implant Residency Programme (1990-1995) at Edward White Hospital in Florida. He is a Clinical Professor in Periodontology and Oral Implantology at the Temple University Dental School, an Associate Professor of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology, University of Lille Medical School and the Co-Director of the Implant Maxi Course, University of Puerto Rico. He has lifetime membership of the UK Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) and is senior advisor to the British Society of Oral Implantology (BSOI). He is a past president of the American Board of Oral Implantology and has been awarded numerous prizes and fellowships in recognition of his services to Oral Implantology. In 2004, he was awarded the insignia of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour by Jacques Chirac, President of France, for his services to dentistry.
Dr Ben Aghabeigi PhD MSc FDSRCS (Eng) FFDRCS (Irel)
Dr Aghabeigi graduated from the National University of Iran with first class honours in 1984. After a year in general dental practice, he was accepted to the Eastman Dental Institute (EDI) where he completed two Master of Science degrees in Oral Pathology and Oral Surgery in addition to a PhD in chronic facial pain and TMJ arthroscopy. From 1992-1994, he was a clinical fellow at the Harvard Dental School and University of Chicago Medical Centre. He returned to London in 1994 and completed his higher surgical training as an Academic Oral Surgeon in 1998 when he was invited to the academic staff at the EDI as a lecturer and Programme Director of the MSc course in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Since 2003, he has been a consultant/Senior Lecturer in Oral Surgery at Birmingham Dental Hospital. In addition to his hospital commitments, he co-directs a one year implant course in collaboration with Professor Tatum at The Tatum Clinic where he also receives referrals for all aspects of Oral Surgery and Implantology for treatment either under local anaesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia. He is a registered provider of care to the clients of private insurance companies. Dr Aghabeigi has more than 19 years’ of experience in training and practice of Oral Surgery and Oral Implantology with a special interest in advanced bone grafting techniques. He is a graduate of the Misch International Implant Institute and a fellow of the International College of Oral Implantologists. His teaching and academic experience plus his clinical skills have been an invaluable addition to the strong clinical training provided by Professor Tatum.
Patient Protocols
Our aim is that each referral to The Tatum Clinic will enhance your patient’s trust in you as their dentist and they will be grateful to you for referring them to us for specialist treatment.
We guarantee that:
• We will only carry out the treatment previously agreed with the referring clinician, on completion of which the patient will be returned.
• After the initial consultation, each patient will receive a written treatment plan, a copy of which is always sent to the referring dentist.
• No treatment will be carried out before an estimate of fees is given to the patient.
• In the rare event where complications arise after the patient has been treated by us, we will always ensure that they receive the remedial care they require immediately.
Treatments
The services dentists are able to offer these days are hugely different from those available in the past, thanks to huge leaps forward in dental technology and materials.
At The Tatum Clinic, we have a strong focus on preventive dentistry, which means helping you to have healthy teeth and gums by having an effective daily oral healthcare routine, following a healthy diet, and visiting us for regular check-ups.
We offer a full range of general dental services. We believe in designing beautiful and natural looking smiles. There is a wide choice of procedures, including tooth whitening – ideal for giving your smile a boost - and dental veneers which can hide
a variety of imperfections. For those who are anxious about dental treatment, we can provide treatment under sedation.
Facial Rejuvenation
Non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures such as Botox® and dermal fillers still require specialist knowledge of the facial area to ensure that they are administered properly and effectively.
As oral surgery experts, we have a superior in-depth knowledge of the relevant areas, which means that you can relax safe in the knowledge that you truly are in the best possible hands.
Botox®
This is renowned for its instant wrinkle-removing effects and is best for treating facial lines which have been caused by muscle movement, such as frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet around the eyes.
Dermal fillers
Our treatments use a natural material called hyaluronic acid, which binds with the water within your skin to lift it and make it firmer. It can be used for a variety of purposes, such as enhancing your lips to make them appear fuller and less lined around the edges, helping to erase facial lines, and generally to improve your facial contours.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are widely viewed as one of the greatest advances made in dentistry over the past few decades.
They are strong, permanent and extremely realistic replacements for missing teeth, and can also be used to hold dentures firmly in place, making eating and talking much easier for wearers.
We are one of the UK’s leading dental implant practices. Our implant team includes leading clinicians such as Professor Hilt Tatum, Dr Ben Aghabeigi and Dr Stephen Salt. We also offer specialist oral surgery services such as removal of wisdom teeth. These can be carried out under sedation or general anaesthesia if required.

Fees
This fee guide has been put together to give you an idea of our fees. It is, however, only intended as a guide – it is difficult to be more accurate because the time a procedure takes and the materials we use will vary from one patient to another.
Before starting on any treatment, we will explain and discuss the range of options open to you, and help you decide which is best suited to you, your budget and your lifestyle.
Based on your decision, we will then provide you with a full quotation in advance, ensuring there are no surprises when you receive your final bill.
If you have any questions about our fees, please feel free to ask – we’ll be happy to help.

Why & where
Why should I learn about dental implants?
Implanlogy has been the most significant development in dentistry during the past 50 years. In the current dento-legal climate, all general dental practitioners should inform the patient of various treatment options including dental implants for replacing missing teeth. Implantology is going to become as common as daily crown and bridge work, profitable and most importantly will provide you a path to lifelong job satisfaction. The course will teach you how to apply your newly acquired knowledge and skills to treating ‘untreatable’ cases.
Why this course?
Implant dentistry training is available from a variety of sources including universities and the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners or courses run by individuals or industry. Most other implant courses lack supervised clinical training and include a limited amount of supervised tutor/student contact. To the best of our knowledge, this course provides the most comprehensive clinical training in Implantology within its time frame in the United Kingdom. You will be trained and mentored by one of the founders of modern dental implantology supported by a strong team of specialist Oral Surgeons and Prosthodontists. Furthermore, the curriculum is specifically designed to meet and exceed the GDC requirement for training standards in Implant Dentistry. For those who wish to persue further academic training, the course is recognised as a stepping stone onto the Diploma and The Master of Science in Implant Dentistry at the University of Warrick.
Where will I be a year later?
A year later you will think why you hadn’t started this course earlier. Many of the past participants have found the Tatum Institute’s experience a turning point in their career. You will be confident to place and restore implants in your own practice and may even undertake advananced procedures such as bone grafting and sinus augmentation.
Where do I get my patients for the course from?
You are encouraged to develop a portfolio of the complete treatment of 10 cases (5 basic and 5 advanced) during the course. According to GDC’s recent guidelines for training standards in Implant Dentistry, such portfolios of activity could be used in any dispute as to whether you are competent in implant dentistry, including complaints before the GDC

Registration & course fees
A non-refundable deposit of £500 will secure a place on the course. The course is run over 45 days from September 2007 to June 2008.For those attending the full course, the total cost of tuition, reading materials, lunches and a number of dinners will be £9250 (plus VAT). The course fee may be paid in three equal payments in September 2007, January & April 2008.
The cost for attendance of any individual 5 day module is £1065 (plus VAT), payable at the latest on the first day of the module.
Early applications are encouraged, so that the tutors can liaise with the participants and evaluate the suitability of prospective patients who are to be treated during the course. Candidates are encouraged to document the complete treatment of 10 implant cases (5 basic and 5 advanced) during the course.
Patient Fees
The patient fees will be divided equally between the referring dentists and the Institute (excluding the costs of investigations and consumables). A fee guide is available but it remains the responsibility of the referring dentist to finalise the treatment planning and provide a cost estimate for their patients. If you arrange for the patient to pay you (at your own fee scale), your course fees could be paid for by the patients.

At The Tatum Clinic, we are keen to offer the best possible referral service to GDPs – one that will make working with us easy and worthwhile.
With this in mind, we offer all our referring practitioners as much – or as little – help as they want. For example, we can assist with assessment of suitability for treatment, and treatment plans; we give you the opportunity to follow the restorative treatment of your implant patients, and we visit you regularly to discuss recent developments and gain feedback so we can further fine-tune our services.
We also hold CPD-accredited oral implantology and oral surgery related seminars at our practice, enabling our partner GDPs to further their knowledge of these rapidly advancing areas of treatment.
